Marlins Sign Christian Yelich to Seven-Year Deal

iStock/Thinkstock(MIAMI, Fl.) — The Miami Marlins and starting outfielder Christian Yelich have agreed to a seven-year pact worth $49 million, the team announced Sunday.

“I love the direction we’re headed,” Yelich said. “I think we’re going to be good this year and for years to come.”

This offseason, the Marlins kicked off their new direction by extending superstar Giancarlo Stanton to a 13-year, $325 million contract.

The Marlins selected the homegrown Yelich, 23, in the first-round of the 2010 baseball draft.

Last season, Yelich has a slash line of .284/.362/.402 and smacked 30 doubles and drove in 54 RBI.
