Rob Carr/Getty Images(KENTUCKY) — Eighteen horses ran for the roses and in a neck-and-neck finish American Pharoah came away with the victory in Saturday’s Kentucky Derby.
“He’s been special since the day I rode him,” said jockey Victor Espinoza, who won his third Derby and second consecutive.
Firing Line placed and Dortmund took the show.
It was the fourth victory for trainer Bob Baffert who also was also the trainer for Dortmund and Espinoza’s second consecutive Derby victory.
The time was 2:03.02 for the 1 1/4 miles.
