Suicide Attack Outside Egypt's Karnak Temple Leaves Five Wounded

iStock Editorial/Thinkstock(LUXOR, Egypt) — At least five Egyptians were wounded Wednesday following a suicide attack at Egypt’s famous Karnak temple in Luxor, health ministry officials said.

The attack was carried out by three men, two of whom were killed by police outside the temple. The third attacker blew himself up and is currently being treated at a local hospital.

The attack on such a popular tourist destination is a dark turn for Egypt, whose struggling economy depends on tourism. Tourist activity in the country has dropped precipitously as a result of unrest over the past four years.
