(DAMASCUS) — The U.S. military killed a key terrorist leader inside Syria in early July, senior officials told ABC News on Tuesday.
Muhsin Al-Fadhli, a senior member of the Khorasan terror group, was killed in the airstrike, according to these officials.
The airstrike was conducted on Al-Fadhli while he was traveling in a vehicle near Sarmada, Syria.
The longtime terror operative has a history of participating in a number of terror plots throughout the Middle East and intelligence officials believe he had prior knowledge of the Sept. 11 attacks in New York and Washington D.C.
Al-Fadhli was considered a senior member of external operations for Khorasan, responsible for organizing attacks outside the country. Like Khorasan itself, al-Fadhli has strong connections to the Nusra Front, a branch of Al-Qaeda that operates inside Syria and Lebanon.
