Bend, Ore. – An Oregon City man may face charges in Deschutes County after an incident last night on Shoshone Road in the south Bend area.
The Deschutes County Sheriff’s office says the 29 year old man was suicidal and armed with a knife. A deputy arrived and found the man in the yard with a large kitchen knife. The deputy was able to get family members that were on scene off of the property to a safe location.
Next, Officers from the Bend Police Department and Troopers from the Oregon State Police arrived on scene and assisted. Deputies continued to talk to the man to try to get him to drop the knife, but he continued to yell and challenge law enforcement personal to shoot him.
The man started cutting his arms and stabbing himself with the knife, and they tried to subdue him with bean bag type projectiles. Next, he ran into a vacant home for 20 minutes. He then exited the home without the knife and he was taken in to custody without further incident.
The investigation determined that the family members were not injured, and the case is being sent to the Deschutes County District Attorney’s Office for review.
