Terrebonne, Ore. – Yesterday at approximately 3:03 PM, deputies of the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a report of an injury motor vehicle crash on Lower Bridge Road just west of NW 27th Street in Terrebonne.
As deputies arrived, the roadway was not blocked, and both involved vehicles were located on the north (westbound side) of the roadway.
An investigation determined the driver of the F-350 Pickup, 24 year old Brandon Hyder, had pulled onto the westbound shoulder of Lower Bridge Highway to take a phone call.
Upon trying to re-enter the roadway to continue his westbound travel, he did not observe, and therefore did not yield the right of way to 73 year old Gary Staten, who was traveling westbound at this location.
The F-350 impacted the left front of the passing Dakota and caused the Dakota to lose control and veer off the westbound shoulder and head on into a tree inside a residential property approximately 12 feet off the highway.
Gary Staten, a Terrebonne woman, was transported to St. Charles Hospital in Redmond with non-life threatening injuries.
Hyder suffered non-life threatening injury and was not transported from the scene for medical reasons.
