CEO Martin Winterkorn resigned his position on Wednesday, and in a statement, the Executive Committee of Volkswagen’s supervisory board said that “further personnel consequences” were expected “in the next days.” Internal investigations are ongoing and proceeding “at a high tempo,” the committee said. “All participants in these proceedings that has resulted in unmeasurable harm for Volkswagen, will be subject to the full consequences.”

The committee also noted that Winterkorn “had no knowledge of the manipulation of emissions data.” While that committee “has tremendous respect for his willingness to nevertheless assume responsibility,” for the scandal, it aims to find those responsible.
