(LOS ANGELES) — The Voice was back with more blind auditions Tuesday night. Among the artists that coaches Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani and Pharrell Williams heard during the two-hour episode: twin sisters who delivered a stirring version of a Dido hit.
Here are the highlights:
Darius Scott, a 23-year-old stylist, opened the broadcast by convincing all of the coaches save Blake to turn around with his rendition of Usher’s “You Make Me Wanna.” Gwen said that Darius’ voice got better and better during the performance. Pharrell loved the way Darius ended the song. Adam added that Darius can hit any note he wants. Darius joined Team Pharrell, citing the fact that he has a tattoo of the logo of Pharrell’s group N*E*R*D.
The four coaches made a bid for Krista Hughes, who played Bonnie Raitt’s “Angel From Montgomery” on an acoustic guitar. Blake said she can bring a style that you don’t hear on radio much right now. Krista will hone her country sound with Blake.
Viktor Kiraly, 31, is an artist from Hungary who has some singles on the radio back home. He took on theDonny Hathaway version of Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On,” resulting in all four coaches turning their chairs. Adam said he wanted a contestant who can go the distance. He also touted the fact that he pressed his button first. Blake called Viktor a phenomenal singer. Viktor is with Team Adam.
Sixteen-year-old Cole Criske sang John Mayer’s “Dreaming With A Broken Heart.” Gwen, Blake and Pharrell all tried to add Cole to his or her team. Gwen praised Cole for locking eyes with her while singing at such a young age. Cole decided to team up with Blake, who noted that he had a contestant in season one who hailed from Cole’s native Temecula, California.
Alex Kandel is part of the rock band Sleeper Agent but is going solo on The Voice. She’s now a member of Team Gwen.
Celeste Betton tackled “Love You I Do,” performed by Jennifer Hudson in Dreamgirls. Pharrell picked her up for his team.
Twin sisters Andi & Alex put a slow spin on Dido’s “Thank You,” and had their choice of the four coaches. Adam said they were among the best harmonizing duos he’s heard. Blake declared he wanted to take them to the finale. Gwen complimented them on their fresh take on the song. Andi & Alex selected Adam.
