Klamath Falls, Ore.- On Wednesday, October 6, there will be a temporary area closure on the Fremont-Winema National Forest’s Klamath Ranger District. The following areas will be affected:
· Forest Service Road 3513: The road will be closed for about 1.5 miles, beginning at its junction with Westside Road. Five hundred feet on either side of this section of Forest Service Road 3513 will also be closed.
· Forest Service Road 743: The road will be closed for its entire length, beginning at its junction with Forest Service Road 740. Five hundred feet on either side of Forest Service Road 743 will also be closed.
Forest Service Roads 3513 and 743 are located about 35 miles northwest of Klamath Falls, Ore., near Threemile Creek.
This area closure will allow specialists to improve fish habitat at Threemile Creek by adding large woody debris instream using a helicopter. Large woody debris was lost over the past century due to human removal, wildfire and natural decay.
Large woody debris provides needed structure for maintaining instream channel conditions, food production and essential cover for fish. The large woody debris being placed will act as a place holder until future trees along the creek are contributed naturally.
During this three day project there will be no nearby detours. Forest visitors are encouraged to utilize their Motor Vehicle Use Maps for alternate routes.
