bieshutterb/iStock/Thinkstock(SANTA MONICA, Ca.) – Health officials have shut down the cafeteria at Providence St. John’s Health Center after discovering an infestation of cockroaches.

Tara Davis, a hospital visitor said “I’m a little disgusted to be honest, but I mean that’s why we have health code checks right?”

A county health inspector found at least 10 live cockroaches in the kitchen during an inspection earlier this week.

Officials say the meals served to patients were not impacted by the cockroaches because they’re prepared in another area of the facility. They believe the bugs were attracted to food and water during the hot weather.

A statement from the hospital said it hopes to reopen on Saturday after consulting with county health officials.
