Team President and CEO Paul Beeston praised Anthopoulos’ work with the team in a statement, saying the GM “has done an unbelievable job and positioned us well for the future.” Beeston said Anthopoulos’ decision was made “reluctantly and regrettably.”

Anthopoulos built the Blue Jays into one of the best teams in baseball, acquiring star pitcher David Price and slugger Troy Tulowitzki at the trade deadline to bolster a team that was already in contention.

The team won 93 games this season, advancing to the American League Championship Series, where they lost to the Kansas City Royals.

“[Anthopoulos] can take great pride in his past and while we do not know where his future is taking him, we do know where he is going, he will be successful,” Beeston added.
