(VIENNA) — An 85-year-old woman in Vienna, Austria took cutting her children out of the will to a new level when she shredded over a million dollars in Euros to spite them, authorities tell the international news agency Agence France-Presse.
After the woman died in a retirement home, the euros as well as savings accounts books were found shredded on her bed, according to prosecutors.
However, it turns out the woman’s surviving family will have the last laugh. Friedrich Hammerschmidt, deputy head of the cashier division of Austria’s central bank tells the Vienna newspaper Kurier daily it will replace all the cash.
“If the heirs can only find shreds of money and if the origin of the money is assured, then of course it can all be replaced,” he explains, adding, “If we didn’t pay out the money then we would be punishing the wrong people.”
