Announced on ESPN on Saturday night, the University of Alabama running back joins a long list of college football legends to win the award, first handed out in 1935.
Stanford University running back Christian McCaffrey finished second in the voting, and Clemson University quarterback Deshaun Watson came in third. Navy quarterback Keenan Reynolds won ESPN’s online fan vote, but came in third in the overall voting.
Henry currently leads the FBS with 1,986 rushing yards and 23 rushing touchdowns. McCaffrey is second at 1,847 yards. Watson passed for 3,512 yards and 30 touchdowns while rushing for 887 yards and 11 scores.
