(NEW YORK) — Christmas has come early for Harry Potter fans. Nearly four-and-a-half years after the final Harry Potter movie debuted, Tuesday morning saw the release of the teaser-trailer for the first spin-off, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
Based on the 2001 book written by Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling but set before the events of the Harry Potter series, Fantastic Beasts stars Oscar-winner Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, a wizard who’s also an expert in — you guessed it — magical, fantastic beasts, many of whom have apparently been set loose in 1930s New York City. It’s up to Scamander to set things right. The film also stars Colin Farrell, Ron Perlman, Samantha Morton and Jon Voight.
We’ve still got a bit of a wait for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The first of three planned films in the new series, it opens November 18, 2016, with subsequent installments penciled in for 2018 and 2020. All three movies are in good hands: they’re directed by David Yates, who also directed the last four Harry Potter films.
