Prineville Man Arrested After Crashing Pickup

Prineville, Ore. – Crook County Sheriff’s Office reports an arrest after pickup rollover crash on George Millican Road Thursday night.

About 7 pm, deputies from the Crook County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to George Millican Road, approximately 10 miles southwest of Prineville.

Upon arrival, deputies located a maroon 1991 Toyota pick-up truck off the east side of George Millican Road, resting on its wheels. It was obvious the vehicle had rolled; however, a search of the area did not locate the occupants of the vehicle.

After checking with other vehicles that were passing by, deputies continued to search the area checking further southbound. During that search two people were located along with a dog approximately ½ mile south of the crash site. The two individuals were identified as being, Laurie Kilby age 52 of Prineville and Robert Garrison age 54 also of Prineville. Garrison identified himself as being the driver of the vehicle. Both Kilby and Garrison had minor injuries and were evaluated by paramedics from Crook County Fire and Rescue; both declined transport to the hospital.

As a result of the investigation it was determined the Toyota pick-up had been northbound when it entered the corner at a speed that was too fast for the road conditions, taking into consideration it was dark, the road was wet and it was on a 35 mph corner. The vehicle then crossed the oncoming lane of traffic. At that point the vehicle then crossed the road again and left the east side of George Millican Road where the vehicle rolled.

Both Kilby and Garrison stated they were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. After being evaluated by paramedics, Kilby was taken into custody on a confirmed Deschutes County warrant on the original charge of DUII. Kilby was transported to Powell Butte by a Crook County Sheriff’s Office Deputy, where he met with a Deschutes County Deputy. Kilby was then transferred into the custody of the Deschutes County Deputy and taken to the Deschutes County Jail.

The Crook County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Crook County Fire and Rescue and the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office. The crash is still under investigation.
