Icy Roads to Blame For Power Pole Crash

La Pine, Ore. – Icy roads caused a Dodge Durango to crash head on into a power pole Friday night at State Recreation and Huntington Roads. No injuries were reported, but Deschutes County Sheriff Sgt. Kevin Dizney says both lanes were blocked for about an hour as the power pole was sheared at the base and the pole and power lines were leaning over the roadway.

Both lanes remain closed until Midstate Electric could remove the post and secure the power lines for later repair. Power was not disrupted during the incident.

The investigation determined the Durango, driven by Jaden Lee Filener, 18 of La Pine,  was traveling westbound at the time of the crash before sliding on the icy roadway. The vehicle left the north side of the roadway and impacted head on into the power pole causing the vehicle to roll. Airbags deployed in the vehicle, and it was determined Filener was not injured during the crash.

Speed, drugs, and alcohol are not believed to be factors contributing to this crash. The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by the Oregon State Police. This investigation is ongoing at this time.
