(NEW YORK) — A Ukrainian pilot vowed to go on hunger strike after being denied a closing statement at her trial, the BBC reports.
Nadia Savchenko, who is accused of killing two Russian journalists using artillery fire from a Ukrainian volunteer battalion in 2014, appeared angry in court after her statement was refused, according to the BBC.
Savachenko has become a symbol of the country’s resistance against Russia, the BBC reports, and she has declared “Glory to Ukraine” to supporters present in the court.
Three months after she was captured by pro-Russian rebels, Savachenko was elected in absentia to the Ukrainian parliament.
The BBC reports she faces 23 years in prison if she is found guilty.
