Bend, Ore. – The City of Bend is taking applications for the Bend Citizen’s Academy, starting March 30th. The goal of the program is to inform and educate participants about the Bend Police Department. In doing so, it provides a variety of ways we carry out our mission. Instruction covers such topics as narcotics, K-9’s, Officer Survival, Traffic, SWAT and much more. The classes are taught by various officers chosen according to their specific area of expertise in law enforcement and our department.
The academy has received recognition as a national and regional model and continues to be a highly popular program in the Bend community. Graduating students are eligible to become Bend Police Department Volunteers. Volunteers are essential to our department delivering service to the community of Bend. Work assignments for Volunteers can include assignments such as Abandoned Vehicle Enforcement, Courier Service, Disabled Parking Enforcement and Special Events.
The Academy has limited space so early signup is recommended. There is no charge for the Academy. The spring 2016 Academy will start on March 30th, 2016, with graduation on May 25, 2016. Classes are held each Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Bend Municipal Court Room, located inside the Police Department facility. The Department is located at 555 NE 15th Street, Bend, Oregon 97701.
