Bend Gas Tax Fails

Bend, Ore – By a nearly 2-1 margin, Bend voters said no to a 5-cent per gallon gas tax Tuesday. More votes have yet to be counted, but as of Tuesday night 63% voted no to the proposed tax, to 37% yes.

58.2% of the registered voters in Bend turned in their ballots.

Funds for the tax would have gone to the backlog of street maintenance and repair. Both sides spent thousands of dollars in radio and television ads throughout the election.
