Firefighters Knock Down Chimney Fire At Tetherow

Bend, Ore – Bend Fire Department responded Wednesday afternoon to a reported flue fire at the club house at Tetherow Golf Course.

The 911 caller stated there were flames coming from the top of the center chimney, about 3 feet in height. Fire crews were able to help fully extinguish the fire in the fire place.

Crews spent time inspecting the attic and the top of the chimney to ensure the fire was contained to the flue itself. A chimney company will be out after the brick cools to further inspect the flue and clean it before the next fire is lit. It was unclear at the time of the incident the exact cause of the fire.

The flue was professionally cleaned 6 months ago. Tetherow’s employees reacted properly to the incident and ensured the safety of all the occupants.

Bend Fire Department reminds everyone that burns a woodstove, fire place or pellet stove to have their flues cleaned and inspected at least once a year to prevent the buildup of creosote in their flue, the leading cause of flue fires. Burning hot fires with well-seasoned wood helps prevent the building of creosote as well. More information on fire place safety can be found at:
