(OAKLAND, Calif.) — Golden State Warriors small forward Andre Iguodala will be riding the bench for at least two weeks due to a sprained ankle.
The injury took place in the final two minutes of the third quarter in Friday night’s 128-112 win against the Portland Trailblazers after fighting for a loose ball with Portland guard Damian Lillard.
“It’s a big deal. It’s a really big deal,” head coach Steve Kerr said. “Andre is so important to everything that we do. It’s not just schematically, but in terms of emotion: He settles us down. …He’s one of our guys who knows what’s happening on the floor.”
Iguodala was seen leaving Oracle Stadium using an umbrella as a cane to relieve pressure on his left ankle.
The Warriors defeated the Phoenix Suns 123-116 on Saturday night improving their record to 59-6. They are on track to beat the best regular season record in NBA history held by the ’95-’96 Chicago Bulls (72-10).
