(INDIANAPOLIS) — The Indianapolis Colts are honoring Peyton Manning in a big way.
The team announced Friday that they will retire Manning’s No. 18 jersey and will build a statue of the quarterback in front of Lucas Oil Stadium.
“It’ll be a destination spot for all of our fans, a destination for cans of Budweiser,” Colts owner Jim Irsay said laughing. “It’s not too often you build statues of people. We’re really excited about putting this iconic statue outside of Lucas Oil Stadium where it’ll stand many, many years. So deserving,” Irsay said Friday.
Manning announced his retirement after winning his second Super Bowl title with the Denver Broncos.
He was drafted as a first round pick in 1998 and played with the organization for 14 years.
