At Least 13 Dead, Dozens Injured After Bus Crash in Spain

Fuse/Thinkstock(FREGINALS, Spain) — A bus crash in Spain near Freginals, south of Barcelona, left at least 13 people dead on Sunday.

According to BBC, Spanish officials said the bus crashed while traveling between Barcelona and Valencia when the driver hit a railing and swerved, causing the bus to hit a vehicle moving in the opposite direction.

At least 43 people were injured and 28 were taken to the hospital, BBC reported.

The bus was carrying 57 people who were mostly students involved in the Erasmus Programme, local officials said.

According to BBC, the bus driver survived the accident and was taken to a local police station.

Officials also said many students on board were foreign, and came from Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, German, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, Palestinian territories, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, and the U.K.
