(NEW YORK) — Taylor Lautner was a hero and heartthrob as Jacob Black, the hunky werewolf in the Twilight movie franchise, but now the actor is sinking his teeth into comedy.
Lautner has joined the Netflix BBC import series Cuckoo, where he replaces departing actor Andy Samberg as leading man. Lautner plays Dale, Samberg’s long-lost son and a former cult member who moves in with his father’s British in-laws.
In an interview with Good Morning America’s Jesse Palmer, 24-year-old Taylor explained what drew him to the British comedy. “In my head it kind of made no sense, and that’s why it made perfect sense,” he said, laughing.
Asked whether Lautner had noticed any nuances between comedies produced in Britain and the United States, the actor replied, “Well, it took me a second to get used to their sort of humor. It’s a little more sarcastic, a little more dry.”
As it happens, Taylor’s role in Cuckoo is the perfect antidote to potential typecasting, following the wild success of the Twilight films. “That’s kind of why I want to choose things that are different,” he said.
