Jorge Rey/Getty Images(HAVANA) — Fidel Castro delivered a rare speech on Tuesday and addressed his age.

In a speech to Cuba’s Communist Party, 89-year-old leader of the Cuban Revolution told party members he would soon die and asked them to help his ideas survive.

“I’ll be 90 years old soon. Soon I’ll be like all the others,” he said in the speech broadcasted on Cuban TV. “The time will come for all of us, but the ideas of the Cuban Communists will remain as proof on this planet that if they are worked at with fervor and dignity, they can produce the material and cultural goods that human beings need, and we need to fight without truce to obtain them.”

The speech, delivered on the last day of the country’s Communist Party congress, was a rare occurrence since Castro has stayed out of the public eye.
