Roseburg, Ore. – Umpqua Community College will receive more than $500,000 in federal money to aid in recovery from the state’s deadliest mass shooting, Oregon lawmakers announced Monday.
The U.S. Department of Education has awarded the college $529,623.
Senators Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden and Representative Peter DeFazio said in a news release, that the funds will address needs stemming from last fall’s campus shooting in Roseburg that left 10 dead – including the shooter – and nine injured.
The legislators had supported the college’s application to the federal School Emergency Response to Violence grant program, which awards money to schools affected by violence or trauma.
