Deschutes Sheriff Places Lieutenant on Paid Leave

Bend, Oregon – Deschutes County Sheriff Shane Nelson placed Lt. Tim Leak on paid administrative leave Tuesday for allegations of violating Sheriff’s Office policies. Nelson stated in a news release that the alleged policy violations are not criminal in nature.

“Because our investigation into this matter is ongoing, I am limited in what I can share,” he stated. “I became aware of these alleged policy violations as a result of the ongoing administrative investigation by Captain John Bocciolatt.”

Lt. Leak was placed on leave after new information came to the attention of Command Staff in the last week.

“As your Sheriff, if there is an issue within this organization, I will take care of business,” Nelson stated. “We have faced challenging issues and, in response, we have added layers of oversight to help us identify, investigate and address issues within the Sheriff’s Office.”

Nelson said the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to work through a period of change. Read
“We remain committed to doing the right thing and to being as transparent as possible with the citizens we serve.”
