Could New Rental Housing Be Coming To Bend’s West Side?

Bend, Ore. – A proposed development will be considered by the Bend Planning Commission today which could bring multifamily rental housing to Bend’s west side.

William Smith Properties is proposing the development, which is the same company that developed the Old Mill District and COCC, which owns the land.

Approximately 12 acres of the project would be located to the south-west of the roundabout at Shevlin Park Road at Mt. Washington drive.

The rest would be on a 3-acre strip on Mt. Washington Drive to the south of Shevlin Park Road.

William Smith Properties is requesting a rezoning of 8 acres from residential standard density to medium residential density.

The developers haven’t stated yet how many units are in the plans.

Residential standard housing allows from 2 to 7.3 housing units per acre.
Medium density development allows from 73 to 21.7 units per acre.

The development is not affordable housing, but the units are expected to be affordable for residents in lower income levels.
