Ericksons Thriftway In Bend Closing Its Doors After More than A Century

Bend, Ore. – Ericksons Thriftway was founded in downtown Bend more than a century ago, but on Wednesday announced that it will be closing after more than a century in business.

Signs were posted stating that everything in the store – other than lottery tickets, tobacco and postage stamps – was 25 percent below its listed price until the store closes.

General Manager Doug Schmidt, who has worked at the store since 1980, said the store will shut its doors once it sheds enough inventory but had no specific date for closure.

Schmidt indicated the rent on the 19,900-squre-foot building in Bend has increased significantly over the last five years.

Schmidt said Ericksons’ Bend employees have the opportunity to re-apply to one of the three company’s remaining stores in Burns, Madras, and Prineville.
