Missing Girl and Dad Found on Warm Springs Reservation

Warm Springs, Ore. – The Warm Springs Police Department located 11-year-old Kaitlyn Stofiel and her father, Thomas Stofiel, 44, Wednesday morning.

An FBI agent and a Warm Springs detective were driving separately down Highway 26 approximately 25 miles west of the city of Warm Springs when they saw the Stofiels hitchhiking. Warm Springs transported both back to town. Both Kaitlyn and her father were wet, cold and hungry but otherwise appeared physically uninjured.

The Stofiels were found within a mile of where they had abandoned their truck previously. The Stofiels reported that they spent most of the past two weeks camping a few miles away in an isolated area.

Kaitlyn is in protective custody, and the Oregon Department of Human Services (DHS) is working to place her with family.

No charges have been filed, and no charges are expected at this time.
