Bend Hosts Public Hearing On Housing Options

The City of Bend will host a Community Information Session regarding newly proposed code amendments related to House Bill (HB) 2001, a bill passed by the Oregon legislature in 2019 aimed at providing more housing options in Oregon communities.

The Oregon State Legislature passed House Bill (HB) 2001 in 2019 which requires cities over 25,000 population to allow the development of “middle housing”, such as:

  • Duplexes “on each lot or parcel zoned for residential use that allow for the development of detached single family dwellings”, and
  • Triplexes, quadplexes, cottage clusters, and townhomes “in areas zoned for residential use that allow for the development of detached single family dwellings”.

Jurisdictions like the City of Bend, who are subject to HB 2001, may regulate siting and design of middle housing required to be permitted, provided that the regulations do not, individually or cumulatively, discourage the development of middle housing types through unreasonable cost or delay.

The public hearing is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Monday, July 26, 2021 before the city planning commission at Bend City Hall. AgendaPC Hearing Packet
