A garage fire in Powell Butte Saturday night was likely caused by failure of a portable lithium ion battery pack. There were no injuries and the property owners were home at the time of the fire, according to a news release from Crook County Fire and Rescue.

Ten firefighters arrived on scene to find a 1,500 square foot detached garage fully involved. Property owners were able to use a garden hose to keep the fire from spreading to the nearby home. The home suffered damage to three windows, melted siding, and charred eaves. The garage and its contents were a complete loss.

The fire was determined to be accidental caused by a failure in a portable lithium ion battery pack.

CCFR was assisted by the Crook County Sheriff’s Office. Redmond Fire and Rescue sent a mutual aid engine, and Jefferson County EMS sent a mutual aid ambulance to cover the district during the fire.
