Bend Fire & Rescue was dispatched to a structure fire Wednesday at Fitness 1440, located at 1569 NE 2nd Street. According to Bend Fire and Rescue, crews were called at 9:18 a.m. to a report of smoke in the men’s locker room. Units arrived on the scene confirming a working structure fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
“Currently, we are unable to access the building due to an unstable roof, according to Bend Fire and Rescue. “We will be unable to investigate until the building is made safe.”
The fire made access to the interstitial space between the ceiling and roof, making the fire difficult to locate and extinguish. Multiple roof trusses were burned through making the roof and air handler units unstable, creating a life safety issue the needs to be mitigated before the investigation can start.
