Redmond’s Ridgeview High School went into lock-down for 98 minutes Thursday afternoon after the school received a report of a student suspected to be in possession of a gun while on campus. School will operate as normal today, Friday, Dec. 10.
“During the lock-down, Redmond Police Department responded and conducted a thorough investigation. No students or staff members were injured or harmed, stated Superintendent Charan Cline, in a letter to parents. “The lock-down ended at 2:20 p.m., the end of the school day, and students were released from their classes by police and school administrators.
A lock-down occurs when a threat happens inside of the school facility. When this happens our school and classroom doors lock, lights are turned off and students are asked to remain quiet while the threat is addressed by law enforcement. We train on a regular basis with students and staff using the I Love U Guys Foundation Standard Response Protocol.
We know that these events are scary, but it is of the utmost importance that we take threats seriously and keeping student and staff safety is our top priority,” the letter stated. “We plan to have counselors on site at Ridgeview High School Friday, Dec. 10 for students and staff who may need to talk about the event.”
