Crash Near Prineville Claims Two Lives

Two people were killed from a two-vehicle crash on Juniper Canyon Road near SE Paulina Highway yesterday. According to Sgt. Tim Durheim with the Crook County Sheriff’s Office:

Update: On January 2, 2023 deputies were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash on Juniper Canyon Road. Prior to arrival information was that two vehicle had impacted head on, and at least one occupant was pinned inside the vehicle. Upon arrival at the scene deputies located two vehicles blocking both lanes of travel, one vehicle was fully engulfed in flames the other was burning in the engine compartment.

The investigation so far shows a 1999 Ford F250 driven by Marie Odum was traveling northbound on Juniper Canyon Road, The F250 crossed the center line and impacted a 2016 Ford Edge driven southbound by Anna Gilbert of Redmond. The Ford Edge was also occupied by two other passengers Shawn Solar and Garrett Dennis both of Prineville.

Odum was transported to St Charles hospital in Prineville where she was treated and released for minor injuries. Gilbert is being treated for non-life threatening injuries. Solar succumbed to injuries despite extensive life saving measures and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Dennis was pronounced deceased at the scene. The investigation into this crash is still ongoing.

Previous post: On January 2, 2023 at approximately 4:30 p.m., deputies from the Crook County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a two-vehicle motor vehicle crash on Juniper Canyon near Paulina Highway. The crash was reported to have multiple injuries and one vehicle was reported to be on fire.

Upon arriving, deputies located two vehicles blocking both lanes of travel on Juniper Canyon Road. One vehicle was fully engulfed in flames, the second was burning from the engine compartment. The drivers of both vehicles were transported to St. Charles Hospital in Prineville by Crook County Fire and Rescue. Two occupants of one of the vehicles were deceased at the scene.

The investigation into the crash caused the closure of Juniper Canyon Road for approximately six hours. This investigation is ongoing, and pending notification to family no further information will be released at this time. The Crook County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Crook County Fire and Rescue, Prineville Police Department and Oregon State Police.
