Sunriver Theater Hosts Acting Workshop

Sunriver Stars Community Theater (SSCT) welcomes professional actor, Patrick Osteen, to Sunriver as a collaboration with SSCT and Sunriver You. Osteen, a Broadway actor, will treat the community to a free acting workshop followed by a captivating one-man performance of “An Iliad.”

“It’s been a lifelong dream to make a living doing theater,” Osteen said. “That dream has taken many forms. This particular show, ‘An Iliad,’ sounds a deep note of humanity through the grief borne of war and loss. The song that emerges tells of the fleeting joyful moments in which we wish to dwell longer than we are allowed.”

The “So You Want to Be an Actor” workshop is open to those 12 and up and will take place from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. March 21 at SHARC, 57250 Overlook Road. Participants will be divided into small groups and prepare a scene to present, exploring ways to express authentic and personal reactions while practicing techniques such as breathing control and focus. Instructors will guide and suggest techniques to improve performance. Attendees are encouraged to bring scripts or materials they would like to work on as well. To register, please sign up at sunriveryou.com.

Osteen loves teaching and sharing his love of theater and puppetry skills, leading him and his father, Sunriver resident Tom Osteen, to form performance company, Rhinoleap Productions. Following the workshop, Rhinoleap and SSCT will present “An Iliad” at 7:30 p.m. March 22 and 23 at Sunriver Brewery Taproom in the Sunriver Business Park, 56840 Venture Lane. In this modern-day retelling of Homer’s epic “Iliad,” a world-weary poet narrates the wrenching, timeless tale of the Trojan War, the bravery of its characters, and the consequences of its battles. Poetry and humor, tales of war, and the modern world all collide in this captivating theatrical experience shared by a single actor. Tickets and more information are available at sunriverstars.org.
