A 36-year-old Bend man was arrested after threatening to carry out a mass shooting. According to a Bend Police:
At approximately 12:53 p.m. on Friday, May 30, Bend Police received a report of a man who had contacted a family member to report he was planning to execute a mass shooting after an argument with family members. The man was known to own multiple firearms.
Officers responded to the suspect’s home in the 3000 block of NE Waller Avenue, where they were able to see his vehicle parked in the driveway. One officer put a drone in the air while another observed from a distance. They observed the suspect exit the home carrying an AR-15-style rifle and a duffel bag and wearing a ballistic vest. The suspect then removed the vest and placed it in the vehicle and got into the truck to leave the residence.
While he was still in the driveway, officers stopped the vehicle and ordered him out at gunpoint, and he complied without incident. He was taken into custody and transported to St. Charles Bend.
Officers searched the suspect’s vehicle and home, and applied for and were granted an Extreme Risk Protection Order, which is a court order preventing a person at risk of hurting themselves or another person from having or getting access to deadly weapons like firearms.
