Travelers should expect flagging and delays up to 20 minutes on U.S. 197 near Five Mile Road just south of The Dalles on Tuesday, Sept. 2 2025 while crews excavate and repair a sinkhole.

Work is expected to start at 6:30 a.m. and last until 3 p.m. Flaggers will stop traffic in both directions. Southbound cars will be stopped near the top of Auction Yard Hill, near milepost 3, and northbound cars will be stopped near milepost 6. Traffic on Five Mile Road will also be stopped before the intersection to keep it clear as crews work to repair the highway.

This is a busy area with many vehicles going to the landfill nearby, so some delays are expected. Plan ahead and give yourself extra time if you are traveling through this area.

The road is safe to drive at this time, and crews are monitoring the area closely.
