At approximately 9:30 a.m. on September 19, 2025, Bend Police officers responded to a call for a multi-vehicle crash in the 100 block of NE Third Street at the railroad underpass. Initial reports indicated the roadway was being blocked by up to four involved vehicles.

An investigation revealed that a northbound white Kia SUV operated by 83-year-old Bend man, had crossed the double-yellow line while attempting to pass several vehicles also traveling northbound. His vehicle struck a southbound utility trailer pulled by an orange Nissan pickup truck. The impact spun out the Kia which then collided with a third vehicle, a white Mazda sedan. One driver reported minor injuries as a result. The Bend man was cited for Reckless Driving and released at the scene.
