Bend Man Critically Injured In NE Third Street Crash

A 26-year-old Bend man was critically injured Friday night after he was struck by a vehicle while crossing the road on NE Third Street near Thurston Avenue in Bend. According to Bend Police:

At approximately 8:16 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 17, Bend Police responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on NE Third Street near Thurston Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found a white RAV4 stopped in the northbound lanes of NE Third Street and a man with severe injuries in the road. Officers performed lifesaving care on the victim until Bend Fire medics arrived. the victim, identified as a 26-year-old Bend resident, remains in critical condition at St. Charles Hospital.

The driver, a 61-year-old Idaho man, called 911 to report he had been driving northbound on NE Third Street and had hit a man crossing the road with a bike. The driver was cooperative and remained on scene.

Third Street was closed in both directions between Revere and Underwood avenues for about 2.5 hours as the Bend Police traffic reconstruction team conducted its investigation. The investigation is ongoing. At this time, no citations have been issued in this incident.
