“Know Tea” This January With Deschutes Public Library

Sip and spill the tea with Deschutes Public Library for “Know Tea” in January. Savor teas from around the world and learn about the iconic Boston Tea Party protest of 1773. Craft beauty with iris-folded paper creations and find focus at a bullet journaling workshop. Make bracelets with fellow Swifties and uncover wellness at Té vs Café: ¿Cuál es Mejor para Tu Salud?. Teens can share their talents on a supportive stage at open mic night and kids can tumble into Wonderland at the Mad Tea Party.  All programs are free and open to the public. Programs marked with an asterisk (*) require registration. Attend any “Know Tea” program in January and pick up a free sample of Reader’s Blend Tea by Metolius Artisan Tea (while supplies last).

Sips & Sentiments: A Card Making and Tea Event*

Attend a relaxing, hands-on card-making session where you’ll create unique, all-occasion cards. Enjoy a cup of tea as you craft and connect with fellow participants. Registration required.


Creating a CommuniTEA of Fitness*

Brew strength and connection through an energizing session focused on building lifelong health and wellness. Join a guided workout featuring simple, effective exercises you can do at home—perfect for all fitness levels and great for the whole family. Registration required.

Create eye-catching paper art using the Dutch iris-folding technique to make intriguing spiral designs with a tea theme. Registration required.

Mo-Tea-Vation: A Bullet Journal Workshop*

Pour yourself a cup of calm and join us for a cozy afternoon of creativity, reflection, and fresh beginnings. Together, we’ll sip tea, set intentions, and explore how bullet journaling can become a nurturing ritual for your mind and spirit throughout 2026. Registration required.

Teen Open Mic Night at the OAC*

Share your music, poetry, comedy, dance, or any other stage-worthy talent in a welcoming, supportive space. Come perform or just cheer on your fellow teen artists. Intended for teens ages 12-18. Registration required.

Mad Tea Party

Tumble down the rabbit hole and into a Wonderland-inspired play experience. Explore a whimsical obstacle course—crawl under, climb over, or toss your way through creative challenges that lead straight to a cozy tea table for a well-earned “drink me” moment. Intended for ages 3-10. All children must be accompanied by a caregiver.

 

Tea Making with Metolius Artisan Tea*

See, smell, taste, and play with herbs and spices to make your own unique tea and bring home your very own tea blend. Intended for ages 8+. Children under 10 must be accompanied by a caregiver. Registration required.

 

Pintando con Té en Español*

Exploraremos cómo distintos tipos de té pueden convertirse en pigmentos naturales para crear composiciones únicas sobre papel. Esta clase está dirigida a niños a partir de 6 años y a sus familias. Require registro previo.

The Boston Tea Party and Creation of American Identity

The Boston Tea Party protest of December 1773 was one of the crucial events leading to the American Revolution. Learn how the tea trade, a radical protest movement, subsequent propaganda and responses by both Americans and the British led to the creation of the United States and one of the key tenets of American identity.

 

Teas of the World*

Explore teas from around the globe and learn how this unique leaf has shaped the world. During this class we’ll brew up several teas while describing how they are processed to develop their specific flavor profiles. Registration required.
