Author and historian Les Joslin will give an illustrated talk on Camp Abbot,
a U.S. Army training center on the Deschutes River just a few miles south of
the High Desert Museum. About 90,000 combat engineers trained at Camp
Abbot in 1943 and 1944. This training, along with the 1943 Oregon Maneuvers
headquartered at Camp Abbot that involved another 100,000 soldiers, had
major effects on life in Central Oregon during the war.
