Redmond Students to Build and Sell Tiny House During June Term

Redmond, Ore. – Redmond Proficiency Academy high school students begin construction of a tiny house this week as part of RPA’s unique June Term experience.

During June Term, students are enrolled in an intensive three-week course designed to enhance and enrich student learning.

RPA’s “Let’s Build a Tiny House” students will construct a 20′ tiny house that will be sold to raise funds for the RPA Spring Serve in Mexico next spring break. This class will allow students to gain construction experience before the Mexico trip in addition to funding the project.

“I am extremely excited that RPA has been able to give me and other students the opportunity to change lives while also learning valuable skills,” said RPA junior Viktoria Sargeant. “Last year over spring break ten other students and I had the privilege of going to Mexico during RPA Spring Serve to build a house for a family in need. For some students, it was a difficult task to come up with the money to be able to participate. This year through RPA’s June term course a group of students will be building a Tiny House and once the house is built we will be selling it to help cover a majority of the cost for next year’s Mexico trip. I am excited about this opportunity because it will give us the chance to change people’s lives and give back to local and international communities.”

Shelter Wise of Portland, Oregon has donated the building plans. Other community partners are Lowe’s, Denfeld Paints, Consolidated Supply, Sego, and Ridgeline Metal.

RPA is seeking discounted materials, or if you would like to make a tax-deductible donation, or if you are interested in purchasing the tiny house, please contact Redmond Proficiency Academy at 541.526.0882.
