Recent Arrest For a Burglary From a NW Bend Residence

On July 14th, the Bend Police Department responded to a report of burglary that occurred in the 2400 block of NW Brickyard. Two high end bicycles were reported stolen from inside of a locked garage. The bicycles stolen were worth a combined $17,000 dollars.

On August 2nd, patrol officers noticed a person riding a bicycle near SE 3rd Street and SE Murphy. The rider committed several violations (traffic related) while riding the bicycle. The officers contacted the rider at Arco AM/PM and found Matthew Robert Chase (32 year old Bend resident) was the person riding the bicycle.

Chase had active warrants for his arrest at the time the officers contacted him. Chase eluded officers for a short time and then actively resisted arrest. Chase was taken into custody a short time later. No injuries were incurred by either Chase or the arresting officers. The officers found the bicycle Chase was riding was stolen from the burglary on NW Brickyard. Specifically, the officers recovered an Intense Carbine bicycle worth approximately $6500.

Looking for the other outstanding property from the burglary, the officers conducted a search warrant in the 20000 block of Shahala Court. During the search warrant, our officers located several other bicycles, other stolen property, a small amount of methamphetamine and a handgun. Because of Chase’s criminal history, he is not allowed to possess any firearms. Chase was transported to the Deschutes County Jail, but the investigation is still ongoing.

Chase was lodged for two outstanding arrests warrants, Resisting Arrest, Escape III, Obstruction of Governmental Administration, Theft I and Burglary I.

We are still looking for the other bicycle stolen from the residence on NW Brickyard. We have attached a photograph of the outstanding bicycle. If you have seen this bicycle, or have seen Chase with this bicycle, please contact us at 541-693-6911.
