Little Stone Project

November 2, 2017 - November 5, 2017

The Little Stone ProjectNov 2-5 in Bend, proposes that amidst the large-scale events/tragedies we faced in the world during the last year, that individuals DO have the power to affect change in the areas most important to them.

Inspiration for the event was suffragist Alice Paul who said, “I always feel the movement is a sort of mosaic. Each of us puts in one little stone.” I’m not an activist, nor an event planner. But it has been a difficult year wherever we turned.

I felt I do either DO SOMETHING as a citizen or bury my head under the covers!  This event stands for the idea that perhaps we CAN make a difference, even in a small (or creative) ways. This is my way to walk the talk.
The event is designed to inspire others to take action, and we set up many ways to get started:

Centerpiece to the Project is a community screening November 2, 7pm at the Tower Theatre of the film “Little Stones”, with proceeds to benefit Saving Grace: Imagine Life Without Violence (women’s shelter). (Watch the trailer here).

Little Stone Project (Nov. 2-5) also includes a First Friday lecture from the Emmy-winning film director of “Little Stones” on “Changing Culture with Culture: How You Can be an Agent for Social Change”FREE workshops on mosaic (based on the “Piece by Piece” nonprofit on Skid Row in Los Angeles), aerosol spray-painting (Bend just amended City Code as of Oct. 2016 to allow public mural painting) and spoken word from MOsley WOtta  plus art and a socially-conscious marketplace at the Liberty Theater.

There are many angles of interest for this event, from personal to global connections (as a nod to our suffragist namesake, the event leads in to election week).  The Project provides many levels of opportunity for Central Oregon residents to become little stones in the mosaic of larger issues and ideas.
