Portland –The Oregon Liquor Control Commission, In Our Backyard, and volunteers from Sisters Rotary are preparing letters to be sent to thousands of liquor licensed businesses across Oregon. The campaign is an effort to educate Oregonians about victims of enslavement, typically called human trafficking.
The OLCC will include mail the human trafficking informational stickers to approximately 12,000 liquor-licensed businesses. Businesses will also receive a letter encouraging them to display the stickers inside restroom stalls and stressing the importance of sharing the information with their patrons. The stickers are supplied by the non-profit group, In Our Backyard, written in both English and Spanish and include separate stickers for male and female restrooms. A former victim of human trafficking will be available at the event to share her story of enslavement.
WHAT: In Our Backyard will oversee volunteers to help
OLCC staff insert a letter and stickers into the
mailings. The letter encourages business owners
to display the stickers, which feature a toll-free
number for victims to call or text for help to the
National Human Trafficking Hotline.
