Chicks die in Madras-area blaze, but other animals alive

Five dogs, two cats, several snakes, mice and other rodents are alive today, but a number of baby chicks are dead after a Madras-area fire.

Firefighters say a heat lamp for the chicks got too close to a kiddie pool and sparked the blaze in the Elm Lane house yesterday.

No people were home at the time.

Damage is estimated at 50-thousand-dollars.
