The family of a woman killed by a Central Oregon Community College security guard doesn’t want such guards to look like police.

Kaylee Sawyer’s father and Bend-area law enforcement officials are supporting a bill in Salem that would clarify the limitations of security guards and not allow their uniforms and cars to look like those of real police departments.

C—O-C-C security guard Edwin Lara killed Sawyer in 2016.

C-O-C-C tells the Bulletin it can’t say much because of a pending lawsuit, but it follows current laws regarding security guards and it disagrees with some of the characterizations from law enforcement questioning its practices.
