Wall Street Tumbles Despite Decline in Unemployment Insurance Claims

iStockphoto/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) — Stocks slipped on Thursday despite a report from the U.S. Labor Department which found that the number of Americans filing for unemployment fell last week.

The Dow Jones Industrial fell 26.22 to finish at 16,841.29.

The Nasdaq closed at 4,376.14, down 3.62 from Wednesday’s close, while the S&P 500 dipped 3.06 to 1,956.47.

Despite Wednesday’s report which indicated a decline in the U.S. gross domestic product, the Labor Department said on Thursday that that hasn’t translated into lost jobs. The number of Americans filing for unemployment dropped by about 2,000.
