On March 14, 2024, at approximately 7:04 a.m., Crook County Patrol Deputies and Medics were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash near mile post 7.5 on Powell Butte Highway. The crash consisted of two cars and a small SUV. The subsequent investigation determined the white SUV travelling eastbound, left its lane of travel, and drove into the opposite lane striking two oncoming vehicles. One driver was critically injured requiring Life Flight transportation to Bend. The driver of the SUV was also injured and transported to Bend via ambulance.

Crook County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Crook County Fire and Rescue, Redmond Fire and Rescue, Oregon State Police, and Oregon Department of Transportation crews. CCSO would also like to express our sincere gratitude to the multitude of concerned citizens that stopped to assist the injured drivers and their occupants prior to our arrival.

Please drive safely on our roadways and remember to always wear your seat belt. Several people’s lives were likely saved in this incident due to seat belts and air bags. This case is still under investigation currently. However, alcohol or impairing substances are not believed to be involved.
